A traditional 16th Century public house situated in the beautiful hamlet of Sutton Abinger, near Dorking.

Welcome to The Volunteer, which is a traditional 16th Century public house situated in the beautiful hamlet of Sutton Abinger, near Dorking.

We are a truly run family business with Dad, Mum, Daughter and Son working to keep this wonderful country pub up to the standard it has now become renowned for. We aim to provide great pub food at reasonable prices, accompanied with traditional open log fires and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

The beautiful surroundings of Surrey Hills are very popular with Mountain bikers, walkers and dog walkers alike. We cater for every type of guest, whether you’re after a quick bite to eat or a relaxing meal we look forward to welcoming you to The Volunteer.

Don’t forget about our three tier garden, which is a great place to sit and admire the beautiful Surrey Hills during the summer!

Here at The Volunteer we are proud to offer a wide selection of great home cooked food, the ingredients for which are all sourced from local suppliers where possible.

We can accommodate most requests, so if you do have a question or certain requirement including dietary requirements or allergies, we are more than happy to try and assist you.

We run a Main Menu and Lighter Lunch Menu during the day which runs alongside our “Dishes of the Day” board. On top of which we offer at least three good, home cooked Sunday roasts every week.

Our children’s menu is designed to appeal to every child. Our delicious, homemade chicken nuggets are definitely a huge hit with our younger guests!

Local Bed and Breakfast

Bulmer Farm has two delightful self catering units, Foxholme and Badgers Holt, available all the year round on weekly lettings (Friday to Friday). These units are tranquil and relaxing having been sympathetically converted from the original farm buildings and completely refurbished in November 2007.

The Garden Room

The Garden Room is a comfortable self-contained B&B annexe next to the main house. Hundreds of guest have visited since 2002 and many have returned again and again. The accommodation comprises a double bedroom with en-suite shower and WC plus a breakfast / sitting room overlooking a pretty and secluded garden.

Mountain Bikers

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nirvana. The aim of this website is to introduce the shop. We’ll tell you about what we do, and why we do it. About the great rides in this area along with some suggested routes. We’ll also let you know about the regular shop rides we do along with a regular update on all the current news. At the end of it all you’re going to want to visit our shop, but most of all you’re going to want to get out there on your bike and ride! After all, isn’t that what it’s all about?.

The Brewery

Today Hall and Woodhouse remains an independent family company owned and run by the fifth generation of the Woodhouse family. The pub estate has grown to over 250 and stretches from Exeter to Eastbourne and Hemel Hempstead – in the North.

Badger award winning bottled beers can be found nationally in leading supermarkets and off licenses.
